10/30 Childish

The theme for today is Childish. As a teacher my desk is full of childish things. Lately my youngest kids keep giving me stickers which I decorate my board eraser with. (Oh and the plot bunny struck again today. But more on that later.)

5/30 Love

Love is four preschoolers who tackle me every morning at work for a good morning hug while yelling my name. They've made me love them more and more with each passing day. (One of them was not at school today hence why there's only three in the picture.)

NaNoWriMo 2013: Day 4 - Oh Yeah, Work...

So reality came crashing back down today with the beginning of the work week. I made my goal of 1k but just barely today because I was so tired. I get off work earlier tomorrow so maybe I'll have time to write a little more than today. 1k barely got the ball rolling before I stopped.

NaNoWriMo 2013: Day 3 - The Rewards of Pushing Through

...are a story that writes itself much faster. Though it did slow down a little towards the end of the day but I think that was because I was slowing down due to being tired. Writing is hard work. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Especially if you do it for many hours in a row.  It's the equivalent of a full-time job to get those words out onto the page.

But now the weekend is over and I go back to my day job and 1k to 2k a day. The story won't progress as fast, but hopefully the momentum will remain until the second 10k push next weekend.

No excerpt today because I'm typing up this post late at night. I'll pick an extra long one tomorrow. Promise!

And We're Off! NaNoWriMo 2013

It's finally here and words are finally being put on the page to finish the novel from last year, now renamed "A Breath in Time". It's been a hard slog to get back into the story, but I think I managed to get back on track after today. This weekend should be the final ticket to getting myself thoroughly situated back in the story and world. That is, if report card writing doesn't get in the way...

I'm Here! Missed Me Yet?

I have arrived! Where, you might ask. Well if you were paying attention back in April, I mentioned that I was moving to South Korea to teach English! And, as of Monday, I have! Though I'm not settled into my apartment yet.

The flight over consisted of two flights. One was two hours and the other nearly fourteen. But that last flight boasted the best service I've ever seen, and most certainly the best meals I've ever had, for an international flight. Even if I was stuck in the middle seat in a chair which refused point blank to recline.

However, there were two full meals (Korean food!) and a snack sandwich during the flight. Also they handed out not just a pillow and blanket, but also slippers. Yes. Slippers. Only on an Asian airline would they hand out slippers. I sneaked them off the plane and am using them at home to keep my feet clean.

My seatmate on the left turned out to be a fellow English teacher so we exchanged contact information. But we had to part after customs when we split off to meet our respective person with a sign. The ride to Suji-gu was slightly awkward simply due to the fact that neither of us was a chatterbox.

South Korea caught my attention from the moment I landed. Even though I didn't see the sun until the next day. All the roads have fences or barricades around them with long sheets of ivy draped over them. But the creepiest part? I wish I had taken a picture of at least one, but I didn't. Construction zones are marked not by signs alone, but by mannequins dressed in constructions clothes!! What freaked me out was that the first one I saw was moving and I thought at first it was a person. Sheesh. It certainly catches your attention.

More of South Korea later, when I get around to visiting this cafe again. It is monsoon season after all and it's raining outside. I should head home on foot umbrella-less while it's still a light drizzle.

Until next time!

J = Job News

To continue the break from writing tip posts, I wanted to post a bit of news about my new job (which might lead to some interesting blog posts in the future).

I've just recently accepted a position at a school for teaching kindergarten and elementary students English. The catch? It's in South Korea! Yes, I will be leaving sometime this summer for that country which has been all over the news recently what with all the commotion their northern relative has been making.

Look forward to blog posts about Korean stuff later this year! I may even try my hand at writing articles featuring various places around the city I'll be living in (which isn't Seoul though it is located just south of it). But the best part ought to be the pictures.

Don't forget to click here to check out the giveaway for The Eye of the Sword. And make sure to check back on Monday for a new giveaway. I wonder which book it will be! Heehee.
