"The kingship of our country hung in the balance and all I could do was think about how hungry I was. I hadn’t eaten since before dawn and my stomach had been grumbling ever since. We were all required to fast in hopes that it would spur our men to victory. So far, it hadn’t worked. Our men kept losing like fools. Always they lost to the one man, the challenger to the throne. He had come, with his long, bright sword and in fine clothes, from another land. He sought to bend our country to his will upon the death of our king who left no heirs."
I'm still mostly sequestered at home, but one of my jobs now has me working dreadful 5 am shifts during the mornings. I am NOT a morning person. I had planned a different story for this month, but ran out of time to complete it. So I chose this one instead. I really love writing short flash fiction. The short word count makes stories end up more like fast sketches versus fully detailed stories.
I'll finish up the story I was already working for next month! Look forward to a return of science fiction once again. On the Erebus is still releasing if you want to read more. The finale will be posted on June 5th! Subscribe here to gain access to stories in my patron library.
